Squires All-star match 2025

Local celebrities suited up and played with the Spiegel Grove Squires, the vintage base ball team at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, on Sunday, June 29. The Squires and celebrities mixed into two teams that will play each other. The result: 

The teams played with the rules and style of the game during the Civil War era, when the sport was first rising to popularity. Back then, base ball was spelled with two words, and ballists, as players were called, played bare-handed.

The celebrities playing with the Squires were:

• Carlos Baez, Sr. – Sandusky County engineer
• Aaron Coonrod – Green Bay Packaging, Fremont
• The Rev. Matt Frisbee – Priest at St. Joseph and St. Ann Catholic Churches, Fremont
• Jason Hawkins – General manager, Comfort Inn & Suites in Fremont
• Brynn Hoffman – Member of Gibsonburg High School Golden Bears softball team
• Jon “Big Nut” Peters – Ohio State University superfan
• Daniel Sanchez – Mayor, City of Fremont
• Dean Schneider – Assistant chief, Fremont Fire Department
• Jerry Wasserman – Former Spiegel Grove Squires captain
• Russ Zimmerman – Sandusky County commissioner
