Hayes Presidential hires associate librarian to work in research library, manuscripts department
When Emily Rinaman was in junior high, her aunt and uncle gave her, her brother and cousins each a binder full of information on her family history for Christmas.
She immediately opened it, read through the pages and became hooked on learning the history of her own genealogy. She still has that binder and keeps adding her own research into more binders.
As an adult, her career had taken her through several jobs in journalism and library work that included investigating information and poring over historical records.
She recently was hired as the new associate librarian at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, where she helps local history researchers and genealogists and performs other tasks in the library and works with the manuscripts department to help organize, digitize and write finding aids for its collections.
“Before my aunt passed away in 2022, I was able to tell her how much that Christmas present shaped my career,” says Rinaman, a Bettsville, Ohio, native. “I love working with historical items. It’s such an unexplainable feeling to be able to touch, hold, and work with original documents that are literally hundreds of years old. I am in awe that my career has naturally unfolded down a specific path of preserving history for future generations and sharing history with others, especially the unique history of Sandusky County and Northwest Ohio.”
Rinaman began working at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in July 2025 as a part-time front desk associate. When the associate library position came open, she applied and had excellent qualifications for the job.
Rinaman has a bachelor of arts degree in English with an emphasis in writing from Heidelberg University in Tiffin and a master’s degree in library information science from the University of South Carolina.
She has worked as a reporter and photographer for the Fostoria Focus in Fostoria, Ohio; serials librarian at the Beeghly Library at Heidelberg University; clerk for advertising and news departments at the Advertiser-Tribune in Tiffin, Ohio; and as outreach manager and then in the technical services department at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library in Tiffin.
Rinaman is married to Dan Rinaman III. They have three children: Gabriel, who attends the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima to study both light and heavy-duty diesel technology; Caleb, who is a sophomore at Lakota High School where he plays golf, basketball and baseball; and Delilah, who is a fourth-grader at Calvert Elementary, who participates in 4-H and dance.
In her free time, Rinaman loves to read historical fiction and non-fiction and continues to research her own genealogy.
Hayes Presidential is America’s first presidential library and the forerunner of the federal presidential library system. It is partially funded by the state of Ohio and affiliated with the Ohio History Connection. Hayes Presidential is located at Spiegel Grove on Buckland Avenue.
