Frequently asked questions about Craft Beers, Cocktails and Corks

Do I need to bring my ID even if I look well over 21?

Absolutely yes. To comply with the law, we must ID everyone, whether you look 21 or 101.

Can I attend the event if I’m younger than 21 and buy a designated driver ticket?

No. This event is for those age 21 and older. You must be 21 to attend.

How will check-in-work?

There will be check-in tables for those who bought presale tickets, and they will be based on last name. You’ll need your ad, and you’ll receive your wristband and tickets.

What if I don’t buy presale tickets? Can I still get them at the event?

Yes, you can buy them when you arrive at the event. There will be a sales table by check-in. Cash or credit card is accepted.

I bought presale tickets for a bunch of people. When we arrive for check-in, how will that work?

The tickets will be under the name of the purchaser. So everyone in your party must be with you and have their valid IDs with them at check-in. If you’d like to expedite this process, please contact Meghan Wonderly-Kolbe, annual giving and membership coordinator, in advance, at 419-332-2081, or [email protected], and she can help you split the names to move the process through more quickly.

Do I need cash? Do you take credit cards?

You need cash if you want to buy 50/50 raffle tickets and to buy tickets for the raffle baskets. Raffle baskets include some great deals, including a Cleveland Cavs and Browns package and a Hayes Presidential Library & Museums package. We also have a beautiful, handmade America 250 quilt that will be raffled that night. Tickets are on sale now, and you can buy those online or at our museum front desk, as well as in-person that night. If you want to buy admission tickets on site or additional drink tickets, you can use either cash or a credit card.

The forecast is calling for rain and potential thunderstorms on Saturday. Will the event be canceled?

If there is light rain, the event would go on as scheduled. However, if there are thunderstorms and lightning, we would cancel. We’ll keep you posted on what’s happening and be sure to let know what is going on by Friday afternoon. In the meantime, we’re planning for the event to take place.

Can I bring a pop-up tent, especially if some rain is expected?

Yes, you can. You can also bring stakes for the tents. Please do not tie them or attach the tents or stakes to the trees.

Do I need to bring my own chairs?

We will have some picnic tables, but we highly recommend bringing chairs because we won’t have enough for everyone. You’re welcome to bring portable tables/tailgate tables, as well.

If an unexpected storm does pop up during the event, is there a place we can shelter?

Yes, if a thunderstorm happens, guests will be directed into the museum and/or Hayes Home to shelter.

Will there be food available? Can I bring my own?

Yes, food trucks Cheat Day Donuts, Pork’s Great Lakes Catch and Grill, Tim's Bar & Grille and Root’s Poultry will be on site. Food truck fare is not included with admission price. You are also welcome to bring your own food.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcomed. They must be on a leash, and you must clean up after your dog.

Will there be event T-shirts?

Yes, they are for sale now in our museum store, and you can get them the day of the event. They are pictured.

Who is the band playing the event?

All Strung Out, a vocal heavy acoustic band. Learn more about the band here.

I’m not interested in drinking alcohol, but the band and food trucks sound fun. Can I still come?

Rutherford and Lucy Hayes kept alcohol out of the White House. Why are you having this event given their stance on alcohol?

President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes supported temperance but were against Prohibition. Their stance was that if people were going drink, they should do so in moderation. Lucy did not drink, but she also did not push her choice onto others. Rutherford did have a drink from time to time, again in moderation. There is even a photo of Rutherford with the adult children in the dining room in the 1880s, and a bottle of wine is on the floor next to them. Additionally, like most people at the time, the Hayeses would also use alcohol medicinally.

You might have heard Lucy called “Lemonade Lucy,” but she was never called this in her lifetime. Historians began calling her this in the 20th century, long after her death.

Rutherford and Lucy’s second son, Col. Webb C. Hayes, and his wife, Mary, lived in the house after Rutherford and Lucy, and they had often had parties where alcohol was served. They even had a “Party Book,” which is in our collections, that detailed who was invited and the food and drinks they served. Later descendants had a bar in the basement of the home.

This event is held on the grounds and is not inside the home.
