Mobile bookstore, complimentary treats and crafts for First Lady Lucy Hayes’ birthday

A mobile bookstore will visit the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums for First Lady Lucy Hayes’ birthday celebration on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Stuck in a Story Mobile Bookstore will be parked at Hayes Presidential and sell kids’ books and bookish merchandise from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Inside the museum, Hayes Presidential will have complimentary cookies and lemonade and free craft activities. There will also be an outdoor butterfly scavenger hunt.
Lucy Hayes, the 19th first lady of the United States, would have turned 195 on Friday, Aug. 28. Each year, Hayes marks her birthday with events with free activities for the public to enjoy.
Craft activities include making paper flowers in a nod to Lucy’s love of flowers and flower arranging and designing your own version of china using paper plates, crayons, stickers and other craft supplies. Lucy’s official White House china is very distinctive and featured flora and fauna of the United States.
Participants can come to the museum front desk to get the butterfly scavenger hunt sheet, find the butterfly signs on the grounds and return their completed scavenger hunt sheet to the front desk for a Hayes Presidential a prize, while supplies last.
The treats, scavenger hunt and craft activities will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while supplies last. Crafts will be self-directed, and written directions will be provided.
Hayes Presidential is America’s first presidential library and the forerunner of the federal presidential library system. It is partially funded by the state of Ohio and affiliated with the Ohio History Connection. Hayes Presidential is located at Spiegel Grove on Buckland Avenue.
