Hayes Presidential Library & Museum switches to winter hours Jan. 2, 2026

The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums will switch to its winter hours starting Jan. 2, 2026.

All facilities will be closed on Mondays and Wednesdays during January, February and March.

The exception is Presidents’ Day, which is Monday, Feb. 16. On Presidents’ Day, the Hayes Home and museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for its Presidents’ Day Celebration. Details on that event are available at https://www.rbhayes.org/news/2025/09/29/general/hayes-presidential-offers-free-admission-activities-for-presidents-day/.

During January, February and March, the Hayes Home and museum will be open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first tour of the home is at 10 a.m., and the last tour is at 4 p.m.

On Sundays, the home and museum will be open noon to 5 p.m. The first tour of the home is at 1 p.m., and the last tour is at 4 p.m.

From January – March, the research library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and the first through third Saturdays of the month.

Starting in the new year, there is a change to the library’s hours on the fourth and fifth Saturdays of the month to better align with peak researcher hours. The library will be open by appointment only for out-of-town researchers using manuscript materials on the fourth Saturday of the month and will be closed on the fifth Saturday of the month.

This move will not result in any staffing cuts and does not involve any budget cuts.

The decision was made to move staff to days that would allow them to better serve researchers at times when attendance is highest. Research appointments for the fourth Saturday of the month can be made by contacting Head Librarian John Ransom at jransom@rbhayes.org or 419-332-2081. Appointments should be made at least a week in advance.

All facilities at Hayes Presidential will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day.

Hayes Presidential is America’s first presidential library and the forerunner of the federal presidential library system. It is partially funded by the state of Ohio and affiliated with the Ohio History Connection. Hayes Presidential is located at Spiegel Grove on Buckland Avenue.
