Spiegel Grove photo contest winners announced
An expertly composed photo of trackless train rides in front of the Hayes Home won the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums photo contest.
The shot by Cecilia Smith of Fostoria shows the sun and rays of sunshine on the backdrop of a blue sky and features a fun event at Spiegel Grove.
Smith wins a one-year Colonel membership to Hayes Presidential, a $50 gift card to the Museum Store and a swag bag.
The second-place winner was summer shot of the historic Hayes Home by Jeremy Gyurica of Fremont. Gyurica wins four passes to the Hayes Home and museum, a $30 gift card to the Museum Store and a swag bag.
The third-place photo featured a snowy scene of the Carriage House by Christy Michael of Fremont. Michael wins two site passes, a $15 gift card to the Museum Store and a swag bag.
The contest sought entries of shots from the Grove, which is the grounds of Hayes Presidential and an accredited arboretum. To judge the photos, Dibling used a scoring system that examined each photo’s general impact, technical quality, creativity, contest theme and display suitability.
"There were many great entries,” Dibling said. “People were very creative in their photography, and they showed many different areas of the grounds. Judging was tight, with some entries jumping ahead by one point. It was a joy to see how creative people can be and to see the beautiful grounds the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums has to offer."
The top three photos will be featured in the annual report issue of The Statesman newsletter, scheduled for publishing in February. They will also be featured on Hayes Presidential’s social media pages and website.
The top 10 photos will be on display in the museum rotunda Friday, Nov. 29, through Saturday, March 1. Access is included with regular admission, and Hayes Presidential members are admitted for free.

About the judge, Preston Dibling
Dibling started his imaging career on the videography side by getting a certification in broadcast video production at his local trade school. After completing his education, he spent many years working at his local camera supply store in camera sales and professional printing, where he discovered his love for photography.
Now, as a professional photographer, he covers a wide range of work, including portraiture, macro and wedding and event photography. Dibling’s enthusiasm for flash photography and teaching others about the transformative power of lighting continues to fuel his work and his work at FJ Westcott.
