Fathers receive free admission on Fatherís Day, special activities offered

All fathers will receive free admission to the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums on Sunday, June 16, and special activities will be offered throughout the day.

The Ohio Wheelmen, a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping alive the heritage of American cycling and promoting the restoration of bicycles made before 1932, will demonstrate riding antique, high-wheel bikes on the grounds and have an outdoor exhibit of bicycle artifacts. Hands-on artifact activities, a photo booth with presidential cutouts and kids activities also will be available.

The schedule of events:

  • Noon to 6 p.m. – The Hayes Home and museum are open for touring. The last tour of the Hayes Home is at 5 p.m. To tour both buildings, a site pass is required. Fathers are admitted to the home and museum for free. The research library is closed.
  • Noon to 6 p.m. – Kids scavenger hunt, make your own campaign ribbon and kids activities will be available in the museum. This is included with a site pass or museum admission.
  • Noon to 6 p.m. – Photo booth with presidential cutouts will be open. Use of the photo booth, which will be in the museum lobby, is free.
  • 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.– Hands-on artifact activities will be offered in the museum. This is included with a site pass or museum admission.
  • 2 to 5 p.m. – The Ohio Wheelmen will demonstrate riding high-wheel bikes and will have an outdoor exhibit on the history of bicycles on the grounds. Admission to grounds events is free.

The Hayes Presidential is America’s first presidential library and the forerunner of the federal presidential library system. It is partially funded by the state of Ohio and affiliated with the Ohio History Connection. The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums is located at Spiegel Grove at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues.
