Celebrate Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day by taking a horse-drawn sleigh or trolley ride through the picturesque, wooded estate of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, which is Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums. Sleigh rides are offered on Valentine’s Day only.
Horse-drawn trolley rides will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14; Sunday, Feb. 15; and on President’s Day, which is Monday, Feb. 16.

The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums will switch to its winter hours starting Jan. 2, 2026.
All facilities will be closed on Mondays and Wednesdays during January, February and March. The exception is Presidents’ Day, which is Monday, Feb. 16.

“The Story of Spiegel Grove: Rutherford B. Hayes, his Family, and their Home” summarizes the lives of Rutherford and Lucy Hayes, The Grove itself and the founding of the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums.

See Santa, watch Spiegel Grove, giant tree light up at Lights of Spiegel Grove

Get in the holiday spirit by seeing Santa light the 50-foot outdoor Christmas tree at Spiegel Grove, an arboretum and the estate of President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes, during Lights of Spiegel Grove on Friday, Dec. 12.
Lights of Spiegel Grove is from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the tree and rest of the grounds will be lighted at 6:15 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, carolers, visits with Kris Kringle (the Victorian name for Santa) a campfire and more.
Hayes Presidential research library modifies hours to align with peak research times

The presidential research library at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums will modify its hours starting Jan. 1 to better align with peak researcher visitation times.
In a change from past hours, the library will be open by appointment only for out-of-town researchers using manuscript materials on the fourth Saturday of the month and will be closed on the fifth Saturday of the month.

Beach Boys, musical mysteries, more in Terra State special exhibit at Hayes Presidential

When the Beach Boys and other major 1960s bands came to Northwest Ohio in the 1965, it was the work and tenacity of a Fremont recording studio owner that brought them here.
Bob Brown owned Brownwood Studios and Courier Records on Croghan Street and wanted to see major performers in the area.
“Bob bringing The Beach Boys was a little like somebody bringing Taylor Swift now,” said J. Brennan Willis, director of music, liberal arts and business at Terra State Community College. “They were a big, big artist.”
