History Roundtable with Mike Gilbert – Alexander Hamilton: The Downfall of a Founding Father
Category: Events
Date & Time: Saturday, October 17, 2026. 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Event Description
Local historian Mike Gilbert shares fascinating stories of local and national history during this popular series, which takes place on six Saturdays in September and October. This week, Gilbert discusses a true crime case involving founding father Alexander Hamilton. In 1799, the murder of “Elma” Sands and the sensational 1800 trial, defended by Hamilton and Aaron Burr, helped grow public interest for lurid courtroom drama and served as a forerunner to the true crime genre so popular today.
Pre-recorded virtual sessions also will be offered for those who cannot attend in-person. Each session is $5, or registrants can purchase all six for $25. Pre-registration and pre-payment for both in-person and virtual sessions are required. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.
To register and pay, contact Julie Mayle, curator of manuscripts, at [email protected]. No refunds.
History Roundtable is sponsored by ProMedica Memorial Hospital.
