Event Description

Celebrate First Lady Lucy Hayes’ birthday with a Victorian tea featuring teas specially made for the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, snacks and a gourd birdhouse craft on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Participants will enjoy two types of tea created for Hayes Presidential by The Summer Kitchen, tea sandwiches, fruit and dessert while learning about Victorian tea traditions.

They also will hydro dip a gourd birdhouse to take home with them. Pottery Perfection will lead the birdhouse activity, and plastic aprons will be provided.

The event is at 11 a.m. in the museum auditorium. It is open to all ages.

Tickets are $35 for non-members and $30 for members. Tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug 13, so that all supplies can be ordered and secured for participants. Tickets are available below. Members will need to log in to receive their discount.

Lucy Hayes and her husband, President Rutherford B. Hayes, enjoyed afternoon tea from time to time, according to the president’s diaries. The birdhouse activity was chosen because Lucy Hayes loved wildlife, including birds. One of the last photos of her was taken while she was feeding pigeons at Spiegel Grove.
