Event Description

The American Presidents Film & Literary Festival is returning this fall for another series of thought-provoking and entertaining programs and films. The festival begins Saturday, Sept. 24, with the literary and local history portion. Events will take place at the Sandusky County Historical Society and Birchard Public Library and include presentations by local authors and walking tours.

The film portion will begin Friday, Sept. 30, and continue Saturday, Oct. 1. Films will be shown at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums and The Strand Theater. The keynote speaker at the Red Carpet Event on Saturday, Oct. 1, is Robert Schmuhl, author of “The Glory and The Burden: The American Presidency from New Deal to the Present.”

The book is an examination of the American presidency and the forces that have shaped it since 1933, with an emphasis on the dramatic changes that have taken place within the institution and to the individuals occupying the Oval Office. Schmuhl traces the evolution of the modern presidency back to the terms of Franklin Roosevelt, maintaining that FDR’s White House years had a profound impact on the office that resulted in significant changes to the job and to those who have served since then. He examines the presidency as an institution and the presidents as individuals from several different perspectives.

The Red Carpet Event will take place in the evening at The Strand Theater. Time is to be announced. For full details on the film festival, including tickets coming soon, visit americanpresidentsfilmfestival.org.

Hayes Presidential is one of the partners in this festival, which is its own non-profit organization.
