While all grades are welcome to enjoy the Hayes Presidential sites, our house guides and volunteer docents are trained in delivering content focused on Ohio’s fourth grade social studies standards. Because of Hayes’s evolving views on slavery, and his efforts as a lawyer during the era of the Fugitive Slave Act in Cincinnati, we are prepared to discuss Ohio’s key role in this moment. We encourage you to look at our content online to further understand this part of the 19th president’s history. Teachers are also welcome to explore our lesson plan content for activities they can implement in their classrooms.
We share National Council for the Social Studies’ vision towards College, Career, and Civic Life
The Hayes Presidential Library and Museums welcomes thousands of students every year.
Come experience history with us!
Please plan on spending at least 2 hours. Standard tours feature a visit to the museum and Hayes home. The Hayes Presidential Library can accommodate groups of up to 120 students each day. The museum and home are both wheel chair accessible. Space for lunch inside the museum is usually available for smaller groups, and larger groups are welcome to eat on the grounds or at Birchard Park (about 2 blocks away) for a picnic experience.
