Introduction
Scott Birchard Hayes, youngest child of Admiral Webb C. Hayes II and Martha Baker Hayes, was a great-grandson of President Rutherford B. Hayes and Lucy Webb Hayes.

Biographical Sketch
Scott Birchard Hayes was born April 2, 1926 in Washington, D.C., the youngest child of Admiral Webb C. Hayes II and Martha Baker Hayes. He graduated from The Hotchkiss School of Lakeville, Connecticut in 1944 and entered the U.S. Navy for service during World War II.  Discharged in 1946 as Electronic Technician’s Mate, he entered Yale University, graduating in 1950. Most of his professional career was spent with Pickands Mather & Company in Cleveland, Ohio, retiring as Senior Vice President in 1987.

Scott served many years as a trustee and then president of The Hayes Historical Society and the Rutherford B. Hayes and Lucy Webb Hayes Foundation, later the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center (now the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums). He was also a trustee of the Ohio Historical Society (Ohio Historical Connection).

Scott B. Hayes married Dorothy (Dee Dee) Walter October 27, 1951 in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. They were the parents of four sons: Scott B. Hayes, Jr., James Walter Hayes, Timothy Wheelock Hayes, and Michael Sherman Hayes.

Scope and Content
This collection primarily consists of school items for Scott B. Hayes, especially junior high school notebooks and course material from his studies at Yale University. Folders detailing his military service and marriage to Dorothy (Dee Dee) Walter complete the collection.
