Introduction
Arthur Baker Hayes was the second child of Admiral Webb Cook Hayes and Martha Baker Hayes and a great-grandson of President Rutherford B. Hayes and Lucy Webb Hayes. Born in Toledo, Ohio, after his service in World War II he worked as a stockbroker in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

Biographical Sketch
Arthur Baker Hayes was born June 4, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio, the second son of Admiral Webb C. Hayes and Martha Baker Hayes. He graduated from The Hotchkiss School of Lakeville, Connecticut in 1943. Arthur then entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was discharged as a sergeant in 1946.

Arthur Hayes attended Yale University, graduating in 1949. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio working first for Thompson Products (later TRW) in the personnel office and then as a stockbroker for several firms for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was also a trustee of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center for over 20 years.

Arthur married June Feltman December 20, 1947 in New York City. They had two children, Leslie June Hayes and Arthur Baker Hayes, Jr. Arthur died in Novelty, Ohio September 26, 1992 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery at Fremont, Ohio

Scope and Content
This collection primarily consists of Arthur B. Hayes’ school notebooks, especially from his elementary and junior high school classes. Letters from Arthur to his mother while he was in the Marine Corps and newspaper clippings regarding his engagement and marriage to June Feltman are also found here.
