Introduction
The collection was donated to the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums by Wayne Van Doren in 1996, 2016 and 2019. For further information about the family, see also: Van Doren Family: Local History Misc. Mss., Abraham Van Doren: Local History Misc. Mss., Van Doren Family "B" File, and the HPC Bible Collection: Van Doren bibles: #37, #47; and The Van Doorn Family genealogy in the Ohio Reading Room.

Biographical Sketch
Isaac Van Doren (1777-1864) of Dutch descent, married Sarah Sebring (1780-1844) in 1805 near Somerset, New Jersey. The couple moved to Ohio in 1814, and settled in Crawford County, Ohio, where Isaac worked as a tanner near Tymochtee (later Wyandot County). Several of their children eventually settled in Clyde as well as Green Creek and York Townships in Sandusky County, becoming one of the county's earliest pioneering families.

Scope and Content
The collection includes miscellaneous family, military, legal, and school records for a number of Van Doren descendants who remained in Sandusky County. Also included in the collection are two family bibles and a compilation of obituaries of Van Doren family members. The records were the result of several years of research by descendant Wayne Van Doren of Clyde, Ohio, the donor.

The collection includes individual files for each of the descendants listed.

This addenda to the Van Doren Family Collection spans the years 1813-1986. It contains black and white, single and group photographs, biographical sketches, school records, organizational membership records, travel souvenirs, military printed material, greeting cards, photo album, and a personal dictionary, and Van Doren family correspondence.

The collection contains twenty-two folders. Each represents a family group organized by the donor Wayne Van Doren, who also identified the photographs in each grouping. The correspondence is arranged chronologically in three volumes. The first two volumes contain nearly one hundred letters written by Elver Van Doren while in the service to his wife Agnes Sheets Van Doren between March and July 1945. The third volume contains forty-four letters written to the Van Doren family by John Van Doren, son of Wayne Van Doren. The letters date from 1982 to 1985.
