Introduction
The records were donated to the Rutherford B. Hayes Library and Museums in 2023.

Agency History
The G. L. Staum Funeral Home was founded by Jacob Staum in Sycamore, Ohio. Born in Holmes County, Ohio, Jacob worked as a carpenter and later developed the undertaking business. He and his wife Eleanor (Sinneft) Staum had three children: George L., William H., and Hester. George L. attended school in Belle Vernon, Ohio, and worked as a carpenter and with his father in the undertaking business When Jacob retired in 1881, George took over his father’s business at S. Main in Sycamore, Ohio. He married Lou Snover. They were the parents of two children, Cleo and Cloa. By 1935, the funeral home became known as Staum and Moore. George Staum passed away in 1944. He is buried in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Tymochtee Twp. Wyandot County, Ohio. 

Scope and Content
The Staum Funeral Home Records consist of four well-preserved, well-organized ledgers. The records date from 1901 to 1928 and each ledger contains approximately 300 entries. The names of the deceased are alphabetically indexed in each ledger. The information given includes the name of the deceased, birth date, occupation, birthplace, date of death, cause of death, age, parents’ names, residence, location of funeral services, cemetery, costs, and person responsible for payment.
