Introduction
The Erie County Genealogical Society record was donated to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in 1996 by longtime member Katharyn Wunderley, a resident of Sandusky, Ohio.
Agency History
The Erie County (Ohio) Genealogical Society organized in May of 1975 as a chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Its purpose is to preserve, collect, and publish, genealogical and historical records of Erie County and Ohio as well as promote interest in local history and genealogy. Monthly meetings feature programs and speakers on family history topics. In 1982, the society began a ten-year cemetery project directed at identifying and recording Erie County tombstone inscriptions. This project dominated the society's work until its completion in 1989.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of a single notebook containing the organization's constitution and by-laws, news releases, meeting announcements, and articles about the organization, its members, and projects from 1975 to 1990.
