Introduction
This collection was given to the Hayes Presidential Center by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Rosengarten in 1998.

Biographical Sketch
Relatively little is known about the families of Cunningham, Blay, and Niederlander.  It is determined that Maria Cunningham of Utica, New York, married Joseph W. Niederlander, and the couple settled in Middletown, Ohio.  It appears as though they had eight children, including a daughter named Laura, who was born 25 April 1878.  Laura Niederlander married Frederic R. Blay, the son of a Detroit, Michigan, contractor and builder.  According to the 1910 census for Wayne County, Michigan, it seems as though Frederic and Laura Blay settled in Detroit with their three children: Mary, Frederic Jr., and Charles.

Scope and Content
This collection, spanning from 1857 to 1966, contains correspondence, birth and baptismal records, religious articles, and other papers relating to the families of Cunningham, Blay, and Niederlander.  The correspondence includes incoming and outgoing communication relating to Maria Cunningham-Niederlander, Laura (Niederlander) Blay, and Frederic R. Blay, among others.  It also contains a number of letters in which the author and recipient are unmentioned or unidentifiable.  The collection, furthermore, consists of birth records for Laura (Niederlander) Blay and Frederic Blay, baptism records, a doctor’s bill and report, as well as prayer cards, religious leaflets, and other such items.
