Celebrate Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day weekend with sleigh and trolley rides
Celebrate Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day by taking a horse-drawn sleigh or trolley ride through the picturesque, wooded estate of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, which is Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums. Sleigh rides are offered on Valentine’s Day only.
Horse-drawn trolley rides will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14; Sunday, Feb. 15; and on President’s Day, which is Monday, Feb. 16.
Sleigh rides are $7 per person ages 3 and older and free for ages 2 and younger. Trolley rides are $6 per person ages 3 and older and free for ages 2 and younger.
The sleigh can fit 4 people, and the trolley can fit 16 to 18 people. Rides are by South Creek Clydesdales.
Advance tickets are available below:
If you are trying to buy a ticket, and it will only let you purchase a certain number, that means there is only that number of tickets left. For example, if it only allows you to choose 1 ticket, then there is only one ticket left.
Tickets will also be sold at the museum front desk the days of the event, pending availability.
In-person trolley and sleigh ticket sales end at 3:45 p.m. each day the rides are offered.
Rides will take place whether or not there is snow. However, if the wind chill is below 15 degrees or there are thunderstorms, rides will be canceled. For updates, visit rbhayes.org or Hayes Presidential’s social media pages.
If Hayes Presidential cancels the rides, refunds for the ticket price will be issued. Otherwise, there are no refunds.
The rides are a nostalgic trip through the beautiful, wooded estate, past the historic Victorian Hayes Home and down Lover’s Lane, a favorite pine-tree lined spot on the grounds.
President Hayes loved riding in sleighs and often wrote in his diary throughout his life about excursions in sleighs at Spiegel Grove and other places he lived.
Hayes Presidential is America’s first presidential library and the forerunner of the federal presidential library system. It is partially funded by the state of Ohio and affiliated with the Ohio History Connection. Hayes Presidential is located at Spiegel Grove on Buckland Avenue.
