Kids Days @ Hayes offers Victorian tea, obstacle course, farm day, more

Kids can enjoy an obstacle course, Victorian tea, farm days and more during Kids Days @ Hayes, an interactive, educational program for kids through age 12 at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums.

Kids Days @ Hayes, formerly Second Saturdays R 4 Kids, takes place on Saturdays throughout the year. The title sponsor for Kids Days @ Hayes is Impact Credit Union.

The 2019 schedule of events is as follows:

  • Saturday, March 16 - Victorian Tea - Two sessions for this event will be offered: 10:30 -11:30 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. During this event, kids can come dressed up, enjoy tea, games and learn about tea time and etiquette during President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes’ era. 

    Kids are encouraged but not required to dress up. Cost is $5 for kids and grandkids of Hayes Presidential Library & Museums members at the family level and higher and $7 for non-member kids. There is no cost for adults who bring kids to this event. Adults who bring kids are welcome to attend, observe and take pictures of their kids. Kids will also receive a 10-percent discount coupon to use in the Museum Store. After the event, kids can tour the museum and Hayes Home for free. Non-member accompanying adults would pay regular admission to tour the home and museum.   • Saturday, May 11Obstacle course and relays inspired by the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums’ World War I exhibit “A Family of Service: The Hayeses in World War I” - 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The obstacle course and relays will take place on the Spiegel Grove grounds.  Cost is $3 for kids and grandkids of Hayes Presidential Library & Museums members at the family level and higher and $5 for non-member kids. There is no charge for adults who bring kids to this program. Event sponsor is JG3 Fitness.

  • Saturday, July 13 – Farm Day -Time TBA. Kids can participate in farm-inspired activities on the lawn of the Hayes Home and learn about the plants and animals that called Spiegel Grove home. At one time, Spiegel Grove was a working farm. President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes, who loved nature and wildlife, kept cows on the property and raised plants. Cost is $3 for kids and grandkids of Hayes Presidential Library & Museums members at the family level and higher and $5 for non-member kids. There is no charge for adults who bring kids to this event.

 

  • Saturday, Sept. 14 – Leaves of Spiegel Grove - 1 -2 p.m. Kids will enjoy a leaf scavenger hunt and leaf-inspired craft. This event will take place on the front lawn of the Hayes Home and in the museum auditorium. Cost is free for kids and grandkids of Hayes Presidential Library & Museums members at the family level and higher and $3 for non-members. Kids Days at Hayes is an interactive, educational program for kids through age 12.

 

  • Saturday, Oct. 26 - Civil War Camp - 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Kids will experience what life was like in a Civil War camp. They will witness historical demonstrations by Civil War reenactors and receive a diary to document their experience, just like President Hayes did in his journal. Cost is $3 for kids and grandkids of Hayes Presidential Library & Museums members at the family level and higher and $5 for non-member kids. There is no charge for adults who bring kids to this program. Event sponsor is Mosser Construction.

 

  • Saturday, Dec. 14 – Victorian Christmas - 1 – 2 p.m. Kids can create a Christmas craft and discover Victorian Christmas traditions, including how the Hayes family would have celebrated the season. Cost is free for kids and grandkids of Hayes Presidential Library & Museums members at the family level and higher and $3 for non-members. Kids Days at Hayes is an interactive, educational program for kids through age 12. Event sponsor is ABC INOAC Exterior Systems, LLC.
