Earl & Geraldine Heuer Foundation Supports Burroughs Elementary
“Without the support we would not be able to go to the center. The students learned from the Curriculum Connections DVD presentations and were excited to get there to see some of the items.”
In May 2014, 4th grade students from Burroughs Elementary visited the Hayes Presidential Museums. During their visit students, had the opportunity to visit both the Hayes Home and Museum. Their visit to the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums was made possible due to the generous sponsorship of the Earl & Geraldine Heuer Foundation. The entire experience was part of the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums’s Curriculum Connections program. Teachers who brought their students to the center this year commented that “Without the support we would not be able to go to the center. The students learned from the Curriculum Connections DVD presentations and were excited to get there to see some of the items.” To thank their sponsor, the Earl & Geraldine Heuer Foundation students from Burroughs Elementary wrote thank you notes, one of these is show above.
Designed as a three-part "satellite classroom" experience, Curriculum Connections provides each teacher with two educational DVD resources for classroom pre and post visit activities. Created by the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums staff, the fully-narrated DVDs complement the learning experience of students’ onsite visit.“Exploring Ohio's Past : A Visit to the Hayes Presidential Center” features the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums original documents, photographs, artifacts, and the physical environment of Spiegel Grove. Fully aligned with Ohio ’s Academic Content Standards, Curriculum Connections also encourages students’ critical thinking skills and creativity through its “How Can We Learn More?” follow-up activities.
