Biographical Sketch
Alexander R. Walters, son of Ephraim and Elizabeth Kline Walters, was born in Rice Twp., Sandusky County in 1838. In 1861, just prior to his enlistment in the Civil War, he married Sarah Jane Parks. Walters joined the 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry as a recruit of Company G. Suffering from illness, Walters was given a disability discharge within several months of entering the service. Returning to Fremont, he regained his health and re-enlisted for 100 days' service in the 169th ONG. He served with the regiment on garrison duty at Washington, D.C., repulsing Early's attack on the capitol. At the close of the war, Walters returned to Sandusky County where he farmed until his death in 1920.
