Introduction
The Charles Frymire Glass Plate Negative Collection was donated to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center by David Eckhardt of Fremont, Ohio in 1997. The negatives were found in the attic of the residence at 301 Pennsylvania Avenue in Fremont, Ohio.

Biographical Sketch
Charles Frymire, son of Henry and Elizabeth Down Frymire, was a lifelong resident of Fremont, Ohio. In 1906, he married Elda Shreffler. Following her death (1930), he married Catherine Walters (1935). For over sixty years, he was an employee of Clauss Cutlery. The family resided at 301 Pennsylvania Avenue for most of their adult lives. Frymire was actively involved in the Civilian Conservation Corps and became an amateur photographer.

Scope and Content
The collection consists of 414 glass plate negatives found in the attic of the home located at 301 Pennsylvania Avenue, Fremont, Ohio. Although undated, the negatives include numerous images of the 1913 Fremont Flood as well as Fremont city street scenes of that period. The bulk of the images consist primarily of Frymire family activities and group scenes before WWI.

Subject headings for the negatives have been entered into a database. Images can be accessed by checking the corresponding number on the database printout. Negatives are stored the film vault.
