Kristen Benedict - 2010

Kristen Benedict of Ravenna, Ohio, chose to perform her 130-hour practicum with the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums Manuscripts Division. The practicum is a graduation requirement of Kent State University's Library and Information Science masters degree program. Kristen received her B. A. in Anthropology and History from Kent State in 2005. Kristen is also passionate about archaelogy. In addition to working full time and completing her masters, Kristen spends time each summer volunteering with the Wright State University Field School at the Fort Ancient Earthworks in Oregonia, Ohio.

While at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, Kristen scanned black and white prints for the Fremont News-Messenger online digital collection. She uploaded the images and provided Dublin Core metadata and cataloging for each image. Kristen digitized some of President Hayes' speeches. She also processed numerous collections, performing basic conservation measures and researching and writing collection descriptions.

With the increased demand for genealogical materials through Ancestry, Kristen graciously photocopied many local government, organizational, and business records for patrons ordering through the Ohio Obituary Index.

The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums staff extends its congratulations to you on your upcoming graduation, Kristen!
