Second Saturdays R 4 Kids

 

The educational series Second Saturdays R 4 Kids at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums offers special events throughout the year. Kids through age 12 learn about history and participate in fun activities. 

Events have included conducting electrical experiments ;ed by Imagination Station, learning to paint with Artistry Uncorked and experiencing life in a Civil War camp with reenactors.

Some months, the event features a scavenger hunt available throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants can stop by and do the hunt any time during the day. Each scavenger hunt has a theme, and kids get a prize for completing it. 

Members at the family level or higher and their children and grandchildren are admitted to Second Saturdays R 4 Kids for free.

The schedule and pricing for each event is as follows: 

Jan. 14, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt with a winter theme available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum. Event sponsor: Bemis Company Foundation.

Feb. 11, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt with a Valentine's Day theme available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum. 

March 11, 2017 - 11 a.m. to noon. Kids can learn to paint with Artistry Uncorked. Their project will have an Easter egg theme. Cost for kids is $3. Canvas and use of supplies is included. There is no charge for adults to bring children to this program. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Curator Dustin McLochlin at 419-332-2081, ext. 230.  April 8, 2017 -  11 a.m. to noon. Kids can learn about First Lady Lucy Webb Hayes through historic crafts and recipes from the 19th century. Museum educators will share Lucy’s experiences at home and work with kids to make their own crafts and create recipes that Lucy herself might have made. Cost for kids is $1. There is no charge for adults to bring children to this program. May 13, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt with a bird theme - chosen because Biggest Week in American Birding is taking place at this time - available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum. 

June 10, 2017 - 11 a.m. to noon. The Spiegel Grove Squires, the vintage base ball team at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, will demonstrate vintage base ball and teach kids to play. Cost for kids is $1. There is no charge for adults to bring kids to this event. Event sponsor is Century Die. 

July 8, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum. 

Aug. 12, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum. 

Sept. 9, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum. 

Oct. 14, 2017 - 11 a.m. Kids can experience what life was like in a Civil War camp. Civil War reenactors will teach kids how to make camp food and learn military drills. Cost is $1 for kids. There is no charge for adults to bring children to this program.  Nov. 11, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt available from noon to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum.  

Dec. 9, 2017 - There will be a scavenger hunt available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the museum. Participants can stop by any time during those hours to do the scavenger hunt and can also tour the museum. Cost is $1 for kids and $7.50 for adults. This includes admission to the museum.
