Special Exhibit "Presidential Pop Culture" opens Feb. 3
See the evolution of the American presidency through popular culture at a special exhibit opening Friday, Feb. 3, at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums.
“Presidential Pop Culture: The Art of Influencing Perception” gives insight into how popular culture shaped and influenced the public perception of presidential hopefuls – winners and losers. This light-hearted exhibit includes cartoons, toys, memorabilia and clips from movies, music and TV.
Although the exhibit focuses heavily on President Rutherford B. Hayes, it includes references to other presidents. The exhibit will include a “Jeopardy!” board with questions that have been on the show regarding U.S. presidents and a living room setup with a TV playing clips from TV and movies. There also will be a photo still provided by Fox Studios from the TV show “Futurama.”
In addition, the exhibit will include caricatures drawn by political cartoonist Arthur “Chip” Bok during while he was at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in 2008 for a presentation.
During the months that the exhibit is on display, kids can create their own pop culture magnet to be displayed on a school locker with in the exhibit.
The exhibit is on display through Oct. 8, 2017. Hours in February and March are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Hours for April – Oct. 8 are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum has shortened holiday hours of noon to 5 p.m. on Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. It is closed on Easter.
Admission is included in the price of a museum ticket. Tickets cost $7.50 for adults, $.650 for seniors, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and free for kids ages 5 and younger. Members of the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums are admitted for free.

In addition to the “Presidential Pop Culture” exhibit, the special exhibit “100 Moments: A Century of the Nation’s First Presidential Library” is on display and open through May 7, 2017.
The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums is America’s first presidential library and is located at Spiegel Grove at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio History Connection.
