Spiegel Grove Squires announce base ball season

The 1860s-style base ball equipment used by the Spiegel Grove Squires. The bats are being dusted off and the leather balls conditioned in preparation for the start of Vintage Base Ball season at the Hayes Presidential Center. The Center’s all-volunteer base ball team, the Spiegel Grove Squires play the sport according to 1860s rules. Club members wear reproduction uniforms and use period equipment as they compete and demonstrate what is lovingly referred to as America’s Pastime. The Squires take their name from the beloved estate of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, where the club’s home matches are played. All Squires home matches are free and open to all thanks to Title Sponsor KF Construction & Excavating, LLC.

The Spiegel Grove Squire’s 2013 season included 12 matches with other historic base ball clubs. The club completed its schedule of matches with a record of 12-5! For a match by match rundown of Squires action, read Manager Jerry Wasserman's journal.

The Club's final event is an exhibition match on
Sept. 21 at Hedges-Boyer Park, Tiffin as part of the Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival.
