Access to Spiegel Grove limited during Civil War Reenactment
Everyone is reminded that Spiegel Grove temporarily will be closed to walkers, joggers, and pets beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, October 6 through 5 p.m. Sunday, October 7due to the annual Hayes Civil War Reenactment. The entire grounds of Spiegel Grove will be taken up with the camps of hundreds of Civil War re-enactors during this unique living-history weekend. Those wishing to enter the grounds will be asked to pay the Hayes Civil War Encampment event addmission of $4/adults and $2/children ages 6-12.
Pet owners also should be aware that a “no dogs” policy is in effect during the Reenactment. No pets will be permitted on the grounds either day. This policy has been established out of concern for the safety of both humans and pets.
No public parking is available on the grounds during the weekend. Those planning to attend the Civil War Reenactment can find ample parking in nearby designated parking lots. A free handicap-accessible shuttle service is providedto ferry visitors from three designated parking areas at Memorial Hospital (off Third Avenue), Croghan Colonial Bank (corner of Arch & Croghan streets), Hayes Elementary School (916 Hayes Avenue). The shuttles drop off and pick up riders at the Cleveland Avenue entrance to the Hayes Presidential Center. Tours of the Hayes Home or Hayes Museum will be discounted to $4 per building for adults and $2 per building for children 6-12.
