The records were acquired from the organization when it disbanded in 1995. For further material on the organization, see: LH 144, LH 212, and items transferred to the Center's Museum (Ac. #1996-7-1-9).
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan, women's civic organization, was founded nationally in 1920 as a means of ensuring that citizens have a voice in government. The organization, through its chapters, is committed to a democratic understanding of the voting process through the promotion of educational activities, including candidate forums, and the creation of directories listing elected officials. The Sandusky County chapter organized in 1951 and, throughout its existence, educated citizens on a variety of social issues before the state and national legislatures. With only thirty-one members remaining, the Sandusky County Chapter disbanded in 1995.
The collection includes the organization's by-laws, minutes, financial reports, scrapbooks, newsletters, programs, government directories, public education materials, annual reports, and histories of the organization. (Ac. #1996-7-1-9).
