The Hayes Garden Club donated its records to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in 1996.
The Hayes Garden Club of Fremont (Ohio) was organized in 1948, and has existed continuously as a women's civic organization devoted to the stimulation of knowledge and the love of gardening among amateurs and to bring about, through various projects, beautification in the community. Membership is limited to thirty members from which officers are elected annually. Significant community projects undertaken during the course of its existence include: Christmas decorations at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center Home, beautification of the YMCA for which the organization received a state award, ongoing care of the the Birchard Public Library grounds, Mayor Mairer Park, and Christmas wreath decorations at the Hayes Presidential Center, the Fremont Post Office, Fremont Memorial Hospital, and the Birchard Public Library.
The collection consists of minutes as well as scrapbooks compiled by the organization throughout its forty-six year history, comprised of meeting minutes, by-laws, newsclippings and photographs concerning organizational activities, correspondence, programs, contest entries, and county fair award ribbons.
