SHEET MUSIC COLLECTION AT THE RUTHERFORD B. HAYES PRESIDENTIAL CENTER

Among the holdings of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center are more than 1,000 pieces of sheet music. Dating from 1838 to 1935, the collection includes patriotic pieces from the Civil War and World War I, 19th century presidential campaign songs, and works devoted to the celebration of American holidays. While the collection spans nearly a century, the bulk of the material dates from 1880 to 1913. The songs include marches, polkas, ballads, and waltzes. Some of the pieces are the work of classical composers such as Mozart, Bach, Brahms, and Handel. Below is a list of the titles. The name of the composer and the date are included if available. For photocopies or more information about the collection, please contact Nan Card, Curator of Manuscripts (ncard@rbhayes.org).
