K of P Baseball Team, Fremont, Ohio
1922
Fremont, Ohio professional photographer Elmer A. Whitney took this picture of the K of P (Knights of Pythias) Baseball Team at Fremont's Hazel Street field on Sunday evening May 14, 1922. The team had beaten Toledo's Steadman K of P team. The score was 1 - 0 after five innings of play when the game was called due to a rain-soaked field. Star pitcher Leo Black ("Blackie") not only struck out seven players of the Steadman team, but also cracked out a long single to left field, allowing Homer Kelly to breeze home. Along with several other pictures by Whitney, this image was recently donated to the Hayes Presidential Center by descendants of the late photographer.
