CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS 2009/2010!

Fall means back to school for Ohio's students. For the Hayes Center, it means kicking off our 2009/2010 Curriculum Connections program. Hayes Presidential Center Curriculum ConnectionsWe are building on last year's success with our new program that connects 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students' onsite visits with our collections and Ohio's Academic Content Standards. Two new sponsors have already offered their help! The Sidney Frohman Foundation is sponsoring an onsite visit to the Hayes Center for more than 225 Sandusky Public School students.

Thanks to Brush Wellman Engineered Materials of Elmore, Ohio, Ottawa County 4th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in Curriculum Connections! Our deep appreciation goes out to these new sponsors! SUMMER INTERN ALEX HUTCHINGS GAINS VARIED EXPERIENCE

Alexandra Hutchings, a double major in History and Gender Studies at Delaware's Ohio Wesleyan University, joined us late this summer. She worked tirelessly scanning historic photographs for the Hayes Center's website. Alex also assisted in mounting Remembering Their Summer, a display of photographs taken on the grounds of Spiegel Grove by the 2009 Migrant School Program students. She also worked with Museum Registrar Mary Lou Rendon (above left) to take down the First Lady-Style exhibit, readying dresses for their return to the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kansas. Thank you Alex! We wish you much success on your return to school!

1973 FREMONT NEWS MESSENGER IMAGES NOW ONLINE

Nearly a thousand Images from the Fremont (Ohio) News Messenger are now available online thanks to the hard work of volunteers Ann Cain, Joanne Gerber, Roy Wilhelm and Intern Alex Hutchings! The West Point graduation picture of Timothy Thomas (at left) is just one image that has been scanned, researched, identified, and dated. All 1973 images are now online. The OhioLINK database provides numerous search and browse options to help you find and read about area service men and women, athletes, students, brides, residents, and events that took place more than 25 years ago! We'll keep you posted on our progress as we work toward uploading images from 1981.
