Ohio Obituary Index
More libraries have joined the Obit Index this Fall and will be importing some large quantities of data, along with manually entering obits daily. Our newest members are Massillon (Stark County) Public Library and Holmes County District Library in Millersburg. In January, Akron-Summit County will be joining us with their large holdings, bringing the number of libraries in the partnership to 55. Northeast Ohio is looking better and better. Counties in red have libraries which are partners in the Obit Index.
A repeat caution: When you find a reference to the Ohio Obituary Index on Ancestry.com or Archives.com, always be sure to click through and go to our site directly for the most complete information. Although these are great gateways to our data they are quite incomplete. Ancestry only displays 1.2 million names and we are now up to 2.2 million on our website. Also any corrections or additions to the original information given to them does not show up at this time.

More on Newspapers
A free website that also has digitized newspapers is the Library of Congresss Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers . Click here for a list of newspapers across the country that have at least partial holdings digitized and searchable online:

I have found it a little difficult to use, but there are some early years of Tiffin and Fremont online that local people might like to browse or search. And it is FREE.
