The Hayes Presidential Library now has THREE microfilm printers. With your generous support we were able to install our second-hand but barely-used Minolta microfilm scanner/printer in the library. The machine went into use the first week of December and there have been several times when all three printers were in use. Thanks to everyone for your help. We still could use some help if you havent donated

Obituary Index New Search Feature
A patron of the Clark County Public Library asked if we could expand our date search capability in the Obituary Index. We decided to hire the web programmers to add this new feature to Obits. Researchers can now use the Advanced Search http://index.rbhayes.org/hayes/index/search.asp
to search for a range of dates for a particular name. Previously you could only search one year, but now you can search multiple years.
If your Holmes family was only in Ohio from 1900 to 1920, then you can limit the search for those years. If you had a common name, such as John Smith, and didnt know exactly when he died you could search approximate years instead of searching all 375 John Smiths who come up in a Basic Search!
Our new 2007 partner, Worthington Libraries, has uploaded about 7000 records to the Obituary Index. This covers the Worthington News from the 1920's to the present day. Thanks, Worthington, for this nice addition.
New Internet Genealogical Resource
Digital images of Ohio Death certificates from 1908 to 1953 are now available online for free.
2. On the homepage click on RECORD SEARCH
3. Sign In (log on). You have to register, but there is no fee.
4. Register (click "save" and you won't have to re-type your information each time you access the website to do research). It takes about 24 hours to get accepted and then you can access these Ohio Death Certificates free at home.
This was made available thru Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) a real asset to Ohio researchers. Here is an example of what can find:
Remember that a great Christmas gift to your genealogical friends (including yourself!) is a membership to the Hayes Presidential Center at the $45 level. Let them enjoy searching for ancestors at home in their pjs and slippers with Heritage Quest access, along with other membership benefits. You can give a gift or become a member online by clicking here: http://www.rbhayes.org/hayes/joinmember/

Genealogical Research in Northwest Ohio Blogs
Fremont News-Messenger Forum Index
Terry Snyder has created a web log (blog) about genealogy in this area. Check it out! Terry is a great writer using humor to deal with genealogical topics.
Also, Derek S. Davey has created a weblog (blog) which could be of interest to Northwest Ohio genealogists. http://nwogenalogy.blogspot.com/
Military Records Opening Up
In case you missed it, here is a press release from the National Archives announcing the opening of all official military personnel records before 1946, over six million records. Now anyone can obtain records for WWII vets who were discharged or died before 1946.
Online Newspaper web site
Heres another useful website - http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/
It is a clearinghouse of newspapers around the world that have a website for their papers. You have to skim by some advertising, but it neatly divides the list by country, then state. Amazing how many papers you could be reading every day online!! Just not enough time, is there?!
The Hayes Presidential Center Library Staff of Becky Hill, John Ransom, Merv Hall and Marie Paulson all wish you a happy and healthy holiday season.
