Croquet: A Sport Story
Event Description:
Explore the history of one of the earliest sports that allowed women to compete against men. Croquet reached a height of popularity in the 19th Century and is finding an ever increasing base of new enthusiasts in the 21st Century. This exclusive Hayes Museum exhibit is made possible by Diversified Insurance and Auto-Owners Insurance.

Event Description:
Enjoy a tour through the 25-acre estate of President Rutherford B. Hayes using the mode of transportation he used - horse-drawn sleighs or carriages. Cost is $3 per rider.

Event Title:
Hayes Lecture on the Presidency
Event Description:
Sponsorship from the National Machinery Foundation and Croghan Colonial Bank make possible a lecture by nationally-recognized expert on African-American history Dr. Edna Green Medford. Dr. Medford will speak on the topic "Lincoln's Evolving Racial Attitudes." Her lecture touches on emancipation, diplomatic recognition of Haiti, the use of black troops and eventual support for their equal treatment, colonization and its abandonment, the president's treatment of African Americans in social settings, and support for political rights for a segment of the African American population. The evening includes a cocktail reception and catered dinner with the speaker, followed by the 7 p.m. lecture. Cost is $30. (Lecture only admission is $10).
