Event List

Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Event Title: Hayes Train Special
Event Description: The spirit of holidays past is revived in this operating model train display. The 12x24-foot, three-tier layout features eight G-, O-, and Standard-gauge trains. All of the trains are styles that relate to the life of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes and his family. Visitors act as engineers lifting gates, flashing lights, sounding the whistle, and more, via a series of interactive buttons. A miniature Victorian village provides a picturesque setting through which the trains travel. Admission is included in the Hayes Museum ticket price. Major sponsor of the exhibit is the Gordon W. Knight Family. Additional funding is provided by Memorial Health Care System.

Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Event Title: CIVIL WAR: Battlefield & Homefront
Event Description: The year 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the start of America’s Civil War. On the exact date that the first Confederate shots were fired on Fort Sumter – the act that marked the war’s beginning – the Hayes Presidential Center opens CIVIL WAR: Battlefield & Homefront. The exhibit interprets the war years using the letters of Northern Ohio residents who served in the war and those who stayed behind. Much has been written about the lives of soldiers, but the lives of those back at home is virtually unexplored. This exhibit is made possible through sponsorship from Auto-Owners Insurance and Diversified Insurance.
