Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Event Title: Hayes Civil War Reenactment Event Description: Mark the 190th birthday of Ohio Civil War hero and 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes by experiencing life during the Civil War. More than 500 re-enactors camp on the grounds of the Hayes estate for this two-day event made possible with funding from Title Sponsor Memorial Hospital. Additional funding from Heinz NA, Mosser Construction Inc., and Curwood Inc. Soldiers conduct military drills, chat with visitors and re-create an actual Civil War battle on the lawn in front of the Hayes Home. Vendors of period wares and food set up canvas tents along Sutlers' Row to ply their trade. The highlight is a formal, military graveside service. President Barack Obama’s representatives will be on hand. Veterans, re-enactors, and active-duty personnel also take part in this solemn, moving observance. Event admission $4/adult, $2/children 6-12. Discounted tours of Hayes Home and Museum available.

Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Event Title: Tales of Travel from the President's Attic Event Description: 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes enjoyed traveling. He was the first U.S. president to travel to the West Coast while in office. His children and grandchildren caught the travel-bug as well, as evidenced by their numerous steamer trunks and travel journals. This new Center-created exhibit takes a look at travel when it was a luxury few people could afford and the risks were very real. Visitors can see what early tourists (like Rutherford and Lucy Hayes) saw when they visited Yosemite Valley in the late 1800s, what a 19th-Century hunting party encountered on the Great Plains, or what travelers experienced in the barely-explored lands of Alaska three decades before it became a state. A focal point of the exhibit is dozens of travel trunks left in the attic of President Hayes� home by the Hayes family. The exhibit showcases travel photos, clothing, souvenirs, and journals dating from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. A video component plays 20th Century home movies of the Hayes family�s travels to France and Scotland. Sponsored by Croghan Colonial Bank.
