Event Title:
Hayes Civil War Reenactment
Event Description:
Step back in time to the days of America's Civil War. Listen for the thunder of advancing cavalry units and steel yourself against the bone-shaking fire of cannon. Hundreds of reenactors camp on the grounds of a presidential estate for this two-day event featuring battle re-creations, period entertainment, demonstrations, food and wares. Children can take part in turn-of-the-century games and the whole family can take advantage of special discounts on tours of the President's home and the Hayes Museum. Sunday's events are highlighted by a presidential memorial service. Event admission $4/adult, $2/children 6-12. Special "Reenactment Weekend" discounts of $4/adult, $2/children 6-12 offered for tours of Hayes Home and Museum. Title sponsor of this year's reenactment is Memorial Health Care System. Additional funding provided by Mosser Construction Inc., Heinz North America, and Curwood Inc.

Event Title:
CIVIL WAR: Battlefield & Homefront
Event Description:
The year 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the start of America’s Civil War. On the exact date that the first Confederate shots were fired on Fort Sumter – the act that marked the war’s beginning – the Hayes Presidential Center opens CIVIL WAR: Battlefield & Homefront. The exhibit interprets the war years using the letters of Northern Ohio residents who served in the war and those who stayed behind. Much has been written about the lives of soldiers, but the lives of those back at home is virtually unexplored. This exhibit is made possible through sponsorship from Auto-Owners Insurance and Diversified Insurance.
