Fanny lived in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH between 1924 and 1926. She lived with her brother, Birchard Hayes, after his wife died in 1924. She died on 19 March 1950 in Lewiston, Androscoggin, ME. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont, Sandusky Co., OH. She was educated at a private school in Cleveland, OH and Farmington, CT.

After her mother's death, she attended her father as hostess of Spiegel Grove and accompanied him on many of his travels.

Her wedding announcement in the Fremont newspaper gave her middle name as Rutherford

Harry Eaton Smith was born on 28 December 1869 in Fremont, Sandusky Co., OH. He lived in Old Shasta, Shasta Co., CA between 1923 and 27. He died on 26 March 1931 in Old Shasta, Shasta Co., CA. Captain in the U.S. Navy; taught at US Naval Academy
