OPENING ADDRESS AT ANNIVERSARY OF CHLDREN’S HOME

Feb. 13, 1877

Cincinnati, Ohio

…Many of the best minds in the country are engaged in devising the best means to reform criminals, remedy pauperism, and get rid of tramps.  The Children’s Home goes to the fountain head of these evils – for it must be clear that the tramp and the pauper and the criminal of to-day was fifteen years or so ago a homeless, friendless child – so that the objects of the Home being well carried out must go a great way to reform the social evils alluded to.
