St. Francis Guild
Scope and Content
The records of the St. Francis Guild were donated by the organization in 2009.
The St. Francis Junior Guild was formed in 1960 with thirteen charter members. The purpose of this volunteer organization was to raise funds and provide support for the St. Francis Rehabilitation Hospital, also known as the St. Francis Health Care Center, located in Green Springs, Ohio. The organization was variously known as the St. Francis of Oak Ridge Hospital Junior Guild, the St. Francis Rehabilitation Guild and the Villa Maria Junior Guild. The St. Francis Guild originally consisted of a Junior and a Senior Guild. The Guilds merged in the late 1990s to become the St. Francis Guild. This collection contains the records of both organizations. The group will be referred to as the St. Francis Guild, though the earlier records in this collection pertain to the Junior Guild only.
The organization provided funds for scholarships and equipment such as wheelchairs, room furnishings, and beds. The guild also improved landscaping and hosted social events and outings for residents. The St. Francis Guild raised money through fundraisers such as an annual holiday bazaar and other events. The St. Francis Guild was dissolved in 2009 when the facility was purchased by the Elmwood Healthcare Center of Green Springs, Ohio.
