Rebecca Dickinson - 2013

 

Rebecca Dickinson, a History major at Heidelberg University, Tiffin, Ohio performed her Service Learning requirement at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums during 2012. All Heidelberg University honors students in the program are required to complete forty hours of community service at a local organization. As a History major, Rebecca continued her experience at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums by performing an archival internship the following semester.

Rebecca has digitized more than 30 speeches of President Rutherford B. Hayes that are uploaded to the Hayes website. She has also helped digitize a taped interview of the late WWI Marine Elton Mackin. She has processed and written finding aids for numerous collections of records of local women's organizations. Rebecca worked with the Hayes Center Exhibit Team to mount "Tales of Travel from the President's Attic" and "War of 1812 on the Ohio Frontier." In the fall, Rebecca will return to the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums to assist the staff with future exhibits.

Rebecca is from Middleburg Heights, Ohio and spends her summers as an intern at the Berea Historical Society. She plans to graduate early from Heidelberg in December 2013 and begin graduate school for Library Science as soon as possible. She hopes to gain further experience in as many areas as possible and to work in an archives after graduation.
